Today’s Hair Transplant Advances

There has been quite a significant leap forward in how hair transplants are performed throughout the last decade or so. Remember the days of the “hair plugs?” They were so noticeable and if you were one of the those who had them done, you’re probably thinking to yourself, “if only they had today’s technology back then!” Well, don’t sweat it. You can actually have your hair plugs removed and hairline made to look better.

The days of hair plugs are no longer with the new hair restoration technologies available today. Hair restoration advancement has moved from hair plugs to the “strip” procedure, or Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and now, Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). The NeoGraft technology, an example of FUE, makes for an easier procedure, easier and more comfortable recovery and more successful results.

With the traditional strip method, a portion of your scalp is removed in its entirety.  After that strip of tissue is removed, that wound has to be closed up and not only is there an uncomfortable wound healing process that has to occur, it can also leave a noticeable scar (the severity of the scar depends on how well the patient heals).  This scar can be noticeable if it doesn’t heal well, or if the patient’s hair is short enough to show.  The tissue that is removed from the patient that has to be cut multiple times in order to isolate individual follicles to than be implanted in the implantation site.  Due to the amount of manipulation that is required, this significantly minimizes the health of the follicles and the risk of successful implantation decreases significantly.

With NeoGraft, the scalp remains intact throughout the entire process.  The NeoGraft hand piece allows for individula follicular units to be extracted with minimal injury to the follicle, as well as the donor site.  Those sites than close up without a scar and blends into the hair pattern as if nothing happened.  As these follicles are removed with minimal handling or manipulation of the follicular units, the risk of injury to the tissue is significantly decreased, and the chances of successful implantation and hair growth are significantly increased.
